Moving Cows
Have you ever had the pleasure of rounding up and moving a herd of cows? I must say it is one of my most favorite things to do in the whole wide world. Even if it is nothing like you expect and the cows don't cooperate. At times it is very unpredictable. Ok, there are few things I that might choose to do instead like a 10 day African Safari on horseback but other than that I can't think of anything else at the moment. I often wonder if I'll ever be able to just ride a horse for pleasure again without having a mission of some sort ...like riding fence line, checking water lines or hunting for stray cows.

Moving and/or trailing cows is lots of fun. For about an hour! ;)
You're doing stuff I've always wanted to do. Thanks for sharing.
Always wondered what it would be like to move a herd over country like yours, but have yet to get the chance to try it. Looks like fun, but looks like WORK too! We only had 30-ish head at any given time, and they all came when we ratteled the gates. (Rattling gate meant food...) Only had to move one or two a couple times, and it was too easy- they followed us!
Thanks for a peep into your world... and I sure hope you get to just laze around on a horse again someday!
Wow, this sounds like a lot of fun but a lot of hard work too. I'm sure you wouldn't give it up for the world though. Hope you get to take a moonlight ride sometime just for fun.
Ah yes, I have trailed cows many, many times...and I miss it now. There is just something soothing about it, even on the not so perfect days :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog...I will certainly be reading yours!
OH girl, you have hit the nail on the head! Working with cows every time is another day! They keep it interesting! Working cows will make you a better reader of the bovines-they all have different personalities! Hubby is like that he doesn't mount up unless there is work to do! I would like to say that is the only time I do, but it isn't!! I keep all the horses here legged up and training on them! So I guess I could say the only time I ride I have a purpose! I do day work with him and love the challenge of it and the rewards of it as well! It is NEVER boring that's for sure! LOL!
Thanks for sharing another great post and picture!
I LOVE your blog!! Oh, how I miss this lifestyle. I'm a former southwest Missouri cowgirl. My husband, until recently was the VP of the National Cattlemen's Beef Association in Washington D.C. Sometimes I look at this traffic and this waaay too busy city and I think, hmmm..I hear because of cattle?? Anyway, love your blog!

Finally got over here to catch up! Great pics! I got to go on one roundup as a kid...was quite exciting except for the really steep terrain, that always scared me while on a horse! Your stories take me back to my childhood and I just love reading them!
I like rounding up cattle too but we do ours on 4-wheelers not horses (well, my nieces have helped with their horses). We don't have the hills like you do so 4-wheelers work great.
NIce pictures the past few posts...as always. Sure beautiful country where you are and nice cows.
Okay, I miss this....walking away...pouting...
Great pics by the way! AS ALWAYS!
