Thank you for the Love & Support

My brother and his wife gave a contribution to the Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society in honor of Veinte - this 501 C3 is dedicated to saving neglected horses in Texas and Arkansas. I do hope they don't think we were neglecting Veinte!! But I am sure they don't. I am thankful that my family contributed to this organization - unfortunately there are way too many neglected horses in the US. And I am afraid that with the closure of all the US slaughter houses (I know morbid) it will only become worse. As you all know, I saved Veinte from being sold at sale barn!

You asked about our pigs....they stay on the sow for 20 days, then go to a nursery for 6-7 weeks and then come to us. They weigh about 50 lbs. when we get them and then we feed them for about 4 months until they weigh 250-275 lbs. They are fed a ground feed mixture of corn and soybean meal. We have a 3barn site and each barn holds 1100 pigs. We are raising pretty much antibiotic free pigs now. The group we have now is not but the last several have been. Funny how much the ag industry changes from year to year.

You have broached a hard subject, that stirs up a load of passionate responses from everyone. I am afraid you are right- until a viable alternative is WILLINGLY found and followed by ALL horse folks, we are in for some tough equine times.

God Bless all the equine rescuers out there..... They sure are going to have a hard time of it. It was wonderful to see a donation made on your family's part!

What a wonderful donation.

I enjoy your blog. You have such an interesting life...and you take beautiful pictures, too!

That was a very nice contribution. I wish everyone would donate to rescues. Especially since like you said, the slaughter plants have closed. Wish people realized those horses are now being sent much farther, to Mexico and Canada, to a worse fate.
Makes me so sad.
Many of my best horses came out of a sale barn, destined for slaughter. The grey I ride I bought for $150. Wade's line back dun mare who can do anything you ask, $300, same sale. She's a lil toed in, but that doesn't stop her from giving her all!
I try to let people know, you can find good horses at those sales.

What a great thing for them to do. Thank goodness to all the rescue places and organizations all over.
