One Room School House

I am amazed at the number of folks in the blogesphere that home school their kids. Somehow, as much as I love my mother I couldn't imagine her attempting to wrangle the kids and home school us. It is a job she would not apply for. Now, I realize there is wealth of resources available today that were not available in my day (notice I didn't say the number of years ago!) so, maybe some aspects of it would be easier for her. For a variety of reasons, I believe the home school parent is much like a one room school house teacher. I love hearing stories about one room school houses and home schooling. Life is an adventure - the curriculum and life experience that home schooling provides is phenomenal - from traveling the world to working cattle some home schoolers are living the life!

Girl I agree! I LOVE my daughter, but I don't have the patience to homeschool her and do her any kind of justice. And how in the world would I get everything done around here! I have a hard enough time getting everything done when she is in school! I do love hearing stories about walking to school and the one teacher and one class, very cool!

Love the previous pictures in the post! It is actually getting cooler here as well! All the old timers around here keep saying winter is going to be early and long.

Today is Cowgirl's birthday--September 10.
As her mother I will tell you I did not have the patience to home school. I would get to shouting over calling out the spelling lesson. I did teach her to parallel park and few other things.

A great blog!
The one-room school is near and dear to my heart, as I spent my first eight grades in one in isolated eastern Montana. When I started first grade, we had four kids in the whole school. But I received an excellent education--lots of one-on-one.

The "old-time" lifestyle is fascinating to me, partly because I more or less lived that kind of life growing up in the 50s (rural MT was quite behind the times. We didn't get electricity until I was 6 years old and no indoor bathroom till I was a junior in high school!)

Anyway, now I live an urban lifestyle, but I write books about the "good old days." My first novel is about to be published, "Cowgirl Dreams," based on my grandmother who rode steers in MT rodeos during the 1920s. I'm very excited.

Keep up the good work!
